Our exciting day begins with a drive to the
local rural areas in Anderson County, filled with historic buildings and great music! Today you have the pleasure to attend a special western music concert by Jimmy Fortune! Jimmy toured, sang and performed with the legendary Statler Brothers for 21 years. He also sang on many of the Statlers' gold, platinum, and double platinum recordings. Jimmy's career included The Nashville Network's popular "The Statler Brothers Show" which aired for seven seasons and debuted in 1991 as the highest rated show for the network. He also presented a special gift to actress Elizabeth Taylor by singing his song "Elizabeth" to her for a birthday celebration. Also included today is a stop at Mineral Point to visit the Samuel S. Tipton Stage Stop in Westphalia, KS. The local guide will give you a tour of this 1857 three-story sandstone structure that stands tall on the highest point in Anderson County. Relive the past with a wagon ride around Inspiration Point, Meditation Garden and view the authentic wagon trail ruts on property, a WPA lake and where coal was dug. Stop for lunch in Garnett, KS and receive a warm welcome form the City Mayor. Spend some time visiting the town square and browse the quaint quilt store and antique gallery. Stop for a special treat then head back to the big city.
