Our destination today is the Lake of the Ozarks with our first stop at the historic Willmore Lodge. This great log building was completed in 1930 for Union Electric, by Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation and designed by Louis La Beaume. The Great Osage River Project has been recognized as one of the greatest engineering and construction feats of its time. The Lodge is preserved as an historic site, and houses the history of the region. A local guide will tell the story of the Osage River, the monumental engineering project that became Bagnell Dam, and the development of the Lake of the Ozarks. It wasn’t until the late 1850’s that the village that gave Bagnell Dam its name was formed on the banks of the Osage River. And we will dine at the Fish and Steakhouse for lunch where people have been having fun since 1891! Before our Ozark adventure ends it is time to board the Tom Sawyer Paddle Wheeler and explore Bagnell Dam for a narrated cruise on a 1800;s authentic paddle wheeler. Our cruise will take use on the main channel of the Lake of the Ozarks and into some interesting coves.
