Once a year, Fort Leavenworth opens up its homes and this
year, there will be many lovely historic homes included in the
34rd Annual Historic Homes Tour. You will see an array of
very popular homes overlooking the beautiful Mississippi
River. We also visit Ft. Leavenworth that has a rich history
with its installation
dating to 1827 and is
the oldest continuously
active Army post west
of the Mississippi
River. The lush, rolling
terrain of northeast
Kansas provides for a
serene, peaceful setting
for the fort. Enjoy a
tasty lunch at June’s Cottage and Cafe while listening to the
local Barbershop Quartet, followed by some free time to
shop. The Cottage is a shopper's paradise of antiques, home
furnishings, and decorative accessories for all tastes and lifestyles….
there is definitely something for everyone here! Before
departing we will visit the Harvey House. It was settled by
Mr. Harvey in Leavenworth, where the family was raised. A
Harvey newsstand existed here from approximately 1900 to
1923 and the Harvey Home has now been established as a museum.
