New Year's in Colorado via Amtrak

December 29 - January 3,2011

What better way to welcome in the New Year than to experience the breath-taking vistas that inspire “America the Beautiful.” All aboard with HOME PICKUPS and your motor coach ride to Denver where you will board  the California Zephyr, then off through a Winter Wonderland to Glenwood Springs. This is considerd to be Amtrak’s’ most scenic route and Zephyr’s sightseeing lounge car is just the ticket to see it all!  This awesome journey includes the splendor of crossing the Rocky Mountains.  The train goes through areas not accessible by car.  And what a season to see it! Pass through snow-covered mountain peaks, crystal-coated pines, glistening streams, quaint mountain villages and awe-inspiring tunnels you’ve never seen before.  Your grand finale to this ride is the spectacular Glenwood Canyon!  Upon arrival in Glenwood Springs check in at one of the states finest historic hotels, the magnificent “Hotel Colorado” for a two night stay.  Glenwood Springs is surrounded by majestic mountain peaks, sparkling with snow.  The entire town is a winter wonderland!  A place to relax, and let the hectic pace of the Holidays slip away.  Take a languid soak in the steaming natural hot springs that now feature a “New Spa” or browse the many quaint shops.  New Year’s Eve morning tour Glenwood Springs – its mineral springs and natural vapor caves have made this town popular since the days of the Ute Indians. Then it’s on to Redstone a unique village, originally developed as a turn-of-the-century “Camelot”.  As an experiment in “enlightened paternalism,” John Osgood constructed 84 cottages and a 40 room inn, all with indoor plumbing and electricity.  Most of these craftsmen-era Swiss style cottages are still used as homes in Redstone. There will be a horse drawn sleigh ride through town, lunch in a trading post and a tour of the famous Redstone Castle, John Osgood’s opulent 42-room Tudor-style mansion. Return to the hotel for a bit of rest and relaxation before your festive evening.  New Year’s Eve promises to be one of your most memorable.  Take the Iron Mountain Tram Way a 4,300 ft gondola ride originating on the floor of the Roaring Fork Valley, near the Colorado River.  From the fully enclosed gondola you can take in the views almost 50 miles to the south, over Glenwood Springs and the Roaring Fork Valley, past majestic Mt. Sopris, to the peaks in Aspen.  Once you’re on top, it’s time for your New Year’s Eve dinner at Lookout Grill with the lights glittering below and the glistening mountains surrounding you.  After dinner the Iron Mountain Tram Way takes you back in to Glenwood Springs to enjoy The Glenwood Vaudeville Revue a fun show with professional talent performing a variety of hilarious skits, jokes, high energy dance numbers, unique novelty songs and original ideas that are guaranteed to make you laugh your worries away.  End the day with a Champagne toast.  New Years Day 2011 will be one to remember.  Take a wonderland drive through some of Colorado’s most impressive scenery with a stop in the lively resort town of Breckenridge and on to Colorado Springs.  Enjoy some R & R at your luxurious hotel then off for dinner and an evening at The Broadmoor Hotel! Other highlights include:  German dinner and entertainment in Hays, Garden of the Gods, lunch at the Kirby House in Abilene and much more.
