Mackinac Island Fall Follage

September 10-18 , 2012

One of our most popular trips! Highlights include two nights in the colorful town of Frankenmuth - Michigan’s Little Bavaria". Here the
authentic Bavarian architecture, covered bridge, and the Glockenspiel, beckon us to explore the old-world charm of this enchanting little village. Travel to the shores of Lake Huron where you board a ferry for the short crossing to Mackinac Island. From the moment you step off the Mackinac Island Ferry, you feel the difference. The stunning Victorian architecture, abundance of horse-drawn carriages and majestic views all combine to make Mackinac Island a destination unlike any other. Spend the next two nights at the lovely Island House Hotel on the waterfront. Take a horse-drawn carriage tour of the Island. Wind your way up scenic bluffs and past charming Victorian homes to the majestic Grand Hotel - the crown jewel of Mackinac Island. After feasting on the Grand’s sumptuous luncheon buffet, take a stroll through the hotel’s beautifully landscaped gardens, or take in the view from its 660-foot-long front porch that overlooks the Straits of Mackinaw. Visit Tahquamenon Falls, the 2nd largest waterfall east of the Mississippi River. Travel to Sault Ste Marie, Ontario where you’ll enjoy a Soo Locks Boat Cruise narrated excursion that will actually take you through the Locks, right alongside the big freighters. Journey past Lake Superior on your way to Wisconsin, where you’ll discover the beauty and charm of Door County. Spend two nights at the Bridgeport Waterfront Resort, located in the center of historic Sturgeon Bay. Resort amenities include: indoor/ outdoor pools, sauna, whirlpool, and fitness center. Relax in a lounge chair in the sun as you look over the waters of Sturgeon Bay, or explore the historic shopping and restaurant district just a short walk away from the resort. Take a tour through Door County’s rolling hills and the picturesque villages that reflect the area’s Scandinavian heritage, and enjoy a famous fish boil dinner. We’ll also visit Mt. Horeb, Dubuque and Amana to complete this popular tour.
